Giant Papillary Conjuctivitous

So my eyes are no longer something i don't have to worry about- I thought the contacts would take care of everything! And they have for like 12 years... but now they are starting to cause problems. Apparently when you wear contacts all day long and for so many years your eyelids start fighting back... that's right! I have had to wear glasses for 3 weeks at a time to have an infection clear up.


The infection is called Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis- sic! Its when the cells on the underside of your eyelid have some kind of infection (which apparently I've had my whole life) and the contacts rubbing against these swollen cells causes it to get more infected and to fight against wearing them. My eyes get all swollen and itchy and watery and reject me wearing contacts and discharging grossness. I know its gross but this is what it looks like...



So the eye doc gives me steroid drops to put in multiple times a day and its supposed to clear it up. Well the first time this happened was in July and it was ok after that but then a month ago I couldn't get my contacts in my eyes again. I was itching and hurting and so I had to wear glasses again. I was hoping that it would go away if I wear my glasses for a couple days but no... it only got worse! I had to go back into the eye doc and he gave me even stronger steroid drops and I had to take them for two more weeks.. I just finally got to start wearing my contacts again on Sunday... but i can only wear them for about 8 hours before my eyes start to reject the contacts once again. I don't think I can fix this without permanently wearing my glasses.

I think what I have decided to do is go back and forth between glasses and contacts for a few more months. So yes, I will be wearing my glasses more frequently and not just at night.. but thats ok. I have to get this cleared up and rid of so that I can have... LASIK!!! Thats right.. I'm hoping in the first part of 2011 to have lasik. I can't wait to open my eyes and be able to see without any help... I will blog about that feeling when I really know what its like!
